The full form of NCERT is National Council of Educational Research and Training.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is an autonomous organisation of the Government of India which was established on 1 September 1961 as a literary, scientific and charitable Society under the Societies' Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860). Its headquarters are located at Sri Aurbindo Marg in New Delhi.[1]Dr. Hrushikesh Senapaty is director of the council since September 2015.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training was established in New Delhi on 1stSeptember, 1961 for providing academic support in improving the quality of school education in India. It is the academic adviser to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) of the Government of India. It is concerned with all problems of school education in the country, and endeavors to improve such education through developing various programmes of research, publication, extension training. NCERT also provides technical advice to states as to how to improve the standard of state science exhibitions and their exhibits for national science exhibitions.
NCERT has the National Institute of Education located at Delhi. NCERT has a large publishing house. It published model text-books, hand-books, guide books and children’s literature or supplementary reading materials. NCERT possesses a production workshop with huge qualities of materials flowing in and flowing out. The central Institute of Education which is a constituent college of the University of Delhi maintained by the NCERT and provides facilities for courses of study leading to the B.Ed and M.Ed degrees. NCERT maintains four regional colleges of education at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar and Mysore. NCERT assists several states in their curriculum development, writing of text books and reviewing of school text-books. ncert have syllabus which give in exams

Structure of NCERT
The National Council of Educational Research and Training
(NCERT) was set up by Government of India in 1961 as an autonomous organisation
registered under Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860) to advise and
assist the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and
Departments of Education in States/ UTs in formulation and implementation of
their policies and major programmes in the field of education, particularly for
qualitative improvement of school education.
For realization of its objectives, the NCERT and its Constituent Units:
•
Undertake,
aid, promote and coordinate research on areas related to school education;
•
Organize
pre-service and in-service training of teachers;
•
Organize
extension services for institutions that are engaged in educational research,
training of teachers or have extension services to schools;
•
Develop
and disseminate improved educational techniques, practices and innovations;
•
Collaborate,
advise and assist State Education Departments, Universities and other
educational institutions;
•
Act
as a clearing-house for ideas and information to all matters relating to school
education;
•
Undertake
the preparation and/or the publication of books, materials, periodicals and
other literature to achieve its objectives;
•
Act
as a nodal agency for achieving goals of universalisation of elementary
education.
In addition to research, development,
training, extension, publication and dissemination activities, the NCERT acts
as a major agency for implementing the bilateral Cultural Exchange Programmes
with other countries in the field of school education. The NCERT also interacts
and works in collaboration with international organizations, visiting foreign
experts and delegations and offers various training facilities to educational
personnel from developing countries.

The National Institute of Education
(NIE) in New Delhi carries out research and development activities related to
pedagogical aspects of curriculum; prepares prototype curricular and
supplementary materials; develops school education-related database and
undertakes experiments in pre-school, elementary, secondary and higher
secondary stages to support all-round development of the learner. NIE also organizes in service training of key
resource persons and teacher educators associated with implementation of
centrally sponsored school improvement schemes.

Objectives of NCERT
The main objectives of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) are to:
(i) undertake, aid, promote and coordinate research in areas related to school education;
(ii) prepare and publish model textbooks, supplementary material, newsletters, journals and other related literature;
(iii) organize pre-service and in-service training of teachers;
(iv) develop and disseminate innovative educational techniques and practices;
(v) collaborate and network with state educational departments, universities, NGOs and other educational institutions;
(vi) act as a clearing house for ideas and information in matters related to school education;
(vii) act as a nodal agency for achieving goals of universalisation of elementary education.
Representations have been received from time to time with regard to history textbooks. The representations, as and when received, are forwarded to the concerned for taking appropriate action. Whenever complaints pertained to NCERT text-books, NCERT has taken these representations into consideration and, wherever found necessary, changes have been carried out in the relevant text books.
NCERT constituted an expert Committee, consisting of experts from various universities/institutions in the country to take a quick review of History Textbooks of NCERT to remove any mistake or controversial material, if any, mentioned therein. The Committee has submitted its report.
The NCERT history textbooks already include a number of glorious historical incidents of the country from the ancient to the modern periods of Indian history. The National Curriculum Framework (NCF)-2005 suggests integration of value concerns in the entire school life – the curriculum, classroom environment, school management, textbooks, teaching learning, teacher pupil relationships etc.
This information was given by the Union Human Resource Development Minister, Smt. Smriti Irani today in a written reply to a Lok Sabha question.
