Autotrophs - All living organisms which make their own food is called autrophs.
Among all living organisms only green plants are autotrophs.

Heterotrophs - All living organisms which depends on plants and other animals for food is called heterotrophs.

Edible Parts of Some Crop Plants

Fruits Apple, Apricot, Date, Palm, Grapes, Mango, Orange etc.
SeedsCereals: Maize, Rice, Wheat, Pearl Millet(Bajra), etc.
PulsesBlack gram (Urad), Gram, Green Gram (Moong), Pea etc.
Vegetables1. Roots (Beet, carrot, Radish, Sweet potato)

2. Under Ground Stems (Garlic, Onion, Potato, Arvi)

3. Leaf, Stem and flower (Cabbage, Cauliflower, Methi, Spinach, Mustard)

4. Fruits (Bitter Gourd, Cucumber, Brinjal, Red Pumpkin, Tomato)

Green Revolution - the great increase in production of food grains (such as rice and wheat) due to the introduction of high-yielding varieties, to the use of pesticides, and to better management techniques

Blue Revolution - (Enhanced Fish Production)

Yellow Revolution - (Increased Oil Production)

White Revolution - (Increased Milk Production)

Golden Revolution - (Increased Pulse Production)

Causes/ Problems of Increased Population

1. Soil erosion
2. Salinization of soils
3. Desertification
4. Silting of rivers
5. Floods
6. Droughts
7. Ozone depletion
8. Pollution of air, Water, Land

Crop Production

Crops - Crops are plants grown on larger area for food.

Agriculture - Agriculture is an applied science which deals with the mass production of plants and animals useful to human beings.

Cereal Crops -  Wheat, Rice Maize, Millets and sorghum. Provide us carbohydrates and energy.

Crop Season

1. Kharif sesason - These crops are grown in rainy season. i.e. (June to October) Example- Paddy,
Soyabean, Arhar, Maize, Millet, Cotton, Urad and Moong are kharif season crops.

2. Rabi season crops -  These crops are grown in winter season i.e. rabi season from November to april. For example, Wheat, gram, peas, mustard, linseed, sugarcane are rabi season crops.

3. Zaid crops -  There are certain crops which are grown between March and June and are known as Zaid crops.

Improvement in Yields

Following three scientific approaches are adopted in India to obtain high yields from our agriculture farms :
1. Crop production management
2. Crop improvement for higher yields through genetic manipulation.
3. Crop protection management.
