Q.1: कोई भी भाषा अपनी व्यवहार में बाधा नहीं बनती पाठ के किस अंश से यह सिद्ध होता है?
Ans : लेखक के जो बचपन के साथी थे वो ज्यादातर राजस्थान या हरियाणा से ही थे, जिनके साथ वो खेला करते थे।सब लोग अलग-अलग भाषाएँ बोला करते थे। वो आपस में एक-दूसरे की भाषा कम ही समझ पाते थे। खेल-खेलते समय यह ज़रा भी पता नहीं चलता था। वे सब भाषा आपस में समझ लेते थे। उनके आपस में व्यवहार से कोई अंतर नहीं आता था।
Q.2: पीटी साहब की शाबाश फ़ौज के तमगों सी क्यों लगती थी? स्पष्ट कीजिए।
Ans : प्रीतमचन्द बहुत ही सख्त शिक्षक थे। कोई भी यदि पंक्ति से सिर इधर-उधर करता या अपनी पिंडली खुजलाने लगता तो वो बाघ की तरह उस लड़के पर झपट्टा मारते थे। लेकिन दूसरी तरफ जब बच्चे कोई भी गलती नहीं करते थे, तो पीटी साहब उन्हें शाबाशी दिया करते थे। बच्चे शाबाश शब्द सुनकर बहुत ही खुश होते थे। उन्हें ऐसा प्रतीत होता था, कि वो किसी फौज के सिपाही है, और उन्हें तमगा मिल गया हो।
Q.3: नयी श्रेणी में जाने और नयी कापियों और पुरानी किताबों से आती विशेष गंध से लेखक का बालमन क्यों उदास हो उठता था?
Ans : जब भी लेखक नयी श्रेणी में जाते तो हेडमास्टर जी उन्हें किसी अमीर घर के बच्चे की पुरानी किताबें ले जाकर दिया करते थे। पुरानी किताबों और नयी कापियों से एक विशेष गंध आती थी जिससे लेखक का बालमन उदास हो जाता था। नए मास्टर से पिटाई का डर और पुराने शिक्षकों की बढी़ हुयी अपेक्षाएं भी उदासी का मुख्य कारण थीं। सभी को ऐसा लगता था कि दर्जा बढ़ने के साथ साथ बच्चे तेज़ हो गए हैं। यदि बच्चे अपेक्षाओं पर खरे नहीं उतरते तो वे बच्चों की चमड़ी उधेड़ने लगते।
Q.4: स्काऊट परेड करते समय लेखक अपने को महत्वपूर्ण 'आदमी' फ़ौजी जवान क्यों समझने लगता था?
Ans : स्काउट परेड में लेखक बिलकुल साफ़ सुथरे धोबी के द्वारा धुले हुए कपडे, बढ़िया पॉलिश की हुई बूट और मोज़े को पहन कर ठक-ठक करके चलते थे। वह अपने आप को किसी फ़ौजी के जवान से कम नहीं समझते थे। अपने को एक फ़ौजी समझकर वैसी ही आन-बान शान के साथ बड़ा अकड़कर चलते थे।
Q.5: हेडमास्टर शर्मा जी ने पीटी साहब को क्यों मुअत्तल कर दिया?
Ans : एक दिन जब मास्टर प्रीतमचंद ने अपनी कक्षा में सभी बच्चों को एक रूप याद करने को दिया जो कि फारसी में था। परंतु बच्चे उस रूप को याद नहीं कर पाये, तो इस पर मास्टर जी ने उन्हें सज़ा दी और मुर्गा बना दिया। सज़ा इतनी ज्यादा हो गई कि बच्चे उसे सहन नहीं कर पाए और कुछ समय में लुढ़कने लगे। तभी वहाँ से हेडमास्टर जी निकले जो बड़े ही नरम दिल के थे। बच्चों की ऐसी हालत देखकर उन्हें अच्छा नहीं लगा और वो ये बात सहन नहीं कर पाए और पीटी मास्टर को निकाल दिया।
